Why at 2 months? Transplacentally acquired maternal IgG peaks at birth and declines over the first months of life. By 2 months, maternal titers begin to wane, leaving the infant vulnerable.
The 2-month regimen uses distinct immunological platforms:
Conjugate (Hib, PCV): a protein carrier recruits T-cell help, class-switching, and memory.
Toxoid (DTaP): antibodies neutralize the toxins, not the bacteria.
Inactivated (IPV): systemic humoral immunity against viremia and CNS invasion.
Live oral (RV): mucosal secretory IgA in the gut.
