Complement MCP
Let any MCP-compatible agent read your learning history, author cards using your workflow, and work with Complement embeddings.
Connect
Add this Streamable HTTP server to your agent:
https://mcp.complementai.app/mcp
Choose OAuth when the client supports it. Otherwise create a scoped access token in Settings and send it as a Bearer token.
How to use it
- Describe your own note-taking and card-authoring process to the agent.
- Have it inspect decks, note models, and existing cards before writing.
- Ask it to dry-run card mutations, then commit with an idempotency key.
- Ask it to group review events by source when you want to compare studying on iOS, desktop web, mobile web, voice, or MCP.
- For comparisons such as “in-house content not covered by AnKing,” let the agent query each deck and reason over the returned cards. Complement deliberately does not impose a coverage algorithm.
Embeddings
Agents can run semantic search, index selected notes, generate raw vectors for supplied text, or request raw stored vectors for an explicit list of notes. Semantic search and the embedding tools are part of the Complement subscription; reading, writing, and querying your cards are free.
Safety
- Each connection has explicit capabilities and can be revoked.
- SQL is read-only, bounded, and restricted to user-scoped learning views.
- Edits use version timestamps. Deletes require a fresh preview and confirmation.
- MCP mutations are auditable and undoable for 30 days.
- Deleting from Complement does not delete a card already stored in local Anki. A later sync can upload that local card again.
